Psilocybe (terkenal dengan istilah Magic Mushroom; kemiripan dengan narkoba) termasuk jamur makro anggota suku Strophariaceae, bangsa Agaricales. Agaricales adalah bagian dari kingdom fungi dengan beadan buah dan 3 bagian utama, yaitu tudung buah/pileus, bilah/lamellae atau pori/pore, dan tangkai/stipe. Psilocybe tumbuh dengan persebaran luas (kosmopolitan) dan berfungsi sebagai satotrof. jamur ini bisayumbuh di kotoran hewan, lumut, ranting, daun, atau kayu yang busuk. jamur ini diperkirakn ada sekitar 116 jenis di dunia dan 1 jenis di Indonesia, yaitu Psilycobe subaeruginacens var. subaeruginacens. jamur ini jenisnya paling banyak terdapat di Meksiko (ada 44 jenis sekitar 39% dari total jenis dunia).
