Psychoanalyse – soms dieptepsychologie of psychodynamische psychologie – is de naam gegeven door Sigmund Freud aan een systeem van interpretatie en therapeutische behandeling van psychische stoornissen. De psychoanalyse is aan het einde van de 19e eeuw ontstaan met Freud als grondlegger. In de psychoanalyse worden psychische klachten toegeschreven aan het onbewuste van de patiënt. Verschillende psychoanalytici hebben geprobeerd de theorie en praktijk aan te passen om wetenschappelijk aanvaardbaar te zijn.
