August Wilhelm von Schlegel (Schlegel until 1812; /ˈʃleɪɡəl/ SHLAY-gəl; German: [aʊˈɡʊst ˈʃleːɡl̩]; 8 September 1767 – 12 May 1845) was a German scholar, critic, Orientalist, Indologist, translator and poet.
