Hephaistos (Oudgrieks: Ἥφαιστος) of Vulcanus (Latijn) is een figuur uit de Griekse mythologie. Hij is de god van de smeedkunst, het vuur en de ambachtslieden en is smid van de goden. Volgens sommige bronnen (Homerus, e.a.) was hij de zoon van Zeus en Hera, volgens anderen (Hesiodus) was hij alleen de zoon van Hera. De Romeinen stelden hem gelijk aan hun god Vulcanus (ook wel Mulciber). Hij was getrouwd met Aphrodite, maar Aphrodite bedroog hem met haar minnaar Ares, de oorlogsgod. Van Ares kreeg ze een kind, genaamd Harmonia.
