Body proportions, spines of head, and tooth pattern similar to those of other specimens of congeners of comparable sizes: dorsal profile of frontals angular without spine; number of teeth increasing from a few rudiments to about 20 in each premaxilla and 15 in each dentary, with maximum relative length of longest tooth 24% SL; dorsal-fin rays 3; anal-fin rays 3; pectoral-fin rays 15–17.Length of illicium of metamorphosed specimens 14–28.5% SL; length of distal escal appendage increasing from less than 10% SL in specimens less than 45 mm to 15% SL in 49-mm holotype, remarkably long, 57% SL, in 77-mm ripe female; a proximal pair of lateral escal branches appearing as more-or-less distinct rounded swellings in specimens of less than 40 mm, in which small secondary branches, when present, are also incompletely developed appearing as tiny papillae; 77-mm ripe specimen with about 10 pairs of filamentous secondary branches and some on each distal tip of large proximal pair; small posterior escal appendage papilliform or pointed, compressed in some specimens, distally fringed in the ripe female.Barbels very similar in all specimens: an anterior pair of primary branches, each divided near b
