Los ganglios linfáticos, nódulos linfáticos, nodos linfáticos o linfonodos son unas estructuras ovaladas o reniformes (con forma de riñón), encapsuladas, que forman parte estructuralmente del sistema linfático y funcionalmente del sistema inmunitario. Se ubican a lo largo del trayecto de los vasos linfáticos formando cadenas o racimos. Su tamaño es variable desde milímetros hasta un par de centímetros. Se distribuyen por todo el cuerpo, encontrándose en forma más abundante en las axilas, en las ingles, en el cuello, en el abdomen (principalmente en el mesenterio) y en torno a los grandes vasos sanguíneos. La linfa llega al ganglio linfático a través de los vasos linfáticos aferentes, circula lentamente a través de la red o laberinto que conforma su estructura interna de tejido conectivo, que actúa como filtro, permitiendo el contacto estrecho entre los antígenos provenientes de microorganismos (bacterias y virus) u otras sustancias extrañas con los linfocitos B y T, desarrollándose de esta forma una respuesta inmunitaria humoral o celular. Una vez filtrada la linfa por los ganglios, esta sale por los vasos linfáticos eferentes hacia la circulación linfática propagando la respuesta inmunitaria (anticuerpos y células activadas) a todo el organismo.
