Il metilfenidato cloridrato (MPH) è un farmaco appartenente alla classe degli psicostimolanti, che possiede una struttura 2-benzil piperidinica, strutturalmente simile al farmaco analgesico meperidina cloridrato (petidina). Parte della struttura base della molecola è identificabile con quella delle catecolamine e delle feniletilamine, da cui si differenzia, però, per l'esclusiva presenza del gruppo piperidinico al posto del gruppo amminico. Possedendo una spiccata attività stimolante, il farmaco trova largo impiego in una serie di disturbi DSM/a e off-label.
