Permethrin ist ein Insektizid und Akarizid aus der Gruppe der Pyrethroide. Es wirkt als Kontakt- und Fraßgift; sein Wirkungsspektrum ist sehr breit. Permethrin wurde von der Arbeitsgruppe um Michael Elliott vom Rothamsted Research für die britische National Research Development Corporation entwickelt und ist seit etwa 1977 im Handel. Es ist ein Typ-I-Pyrethroid, hat also keine Cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl-Gruppe.
