Sem (in ebraico שֵׁם) è uno dei tre figli di Noè citati nella Bibbia, nacque quando suo padre aveva ben cinquecento anni, cioè cento anni prima del diluvio universale. Visse seicento anni e vide i suoi discendenti fino alla nona generazione, cioè fino ad Abramo, il quale morì trentacinque anni prima di Sem. Alcuni ebrei lo identificano anche con Melchisedek, il Re di Salem (che si ritene fosse l'odierna Gerusalemme). Da Sem derivano tutti i popoli semitici.
