In Silpheed, the player pilots a spaceship through levels of increasing difficulty, in a pseudo-3D vertically scrolling field, shooting everything in his path. New weapons will become available as he gathers points, and power-ups are sprinkled throughout the levels. The game is one of the first-ever that used music as a selling point.

Silpheed (シルフィード Silpheed?) är ett shoot 'em up-spel utvecklat av Game Arts, och designat av . Spelet debuterade till i Japan 1986, för att därefter porteras till och MS-DOS. En remake gjordes senare till Mega-CD, och uppföljaren släpptes till Playstation 2. Spelet är en tredjepersonsskjutare, och använde sig av för sin tid avancerad grafik.
