Theodor Storm

Theodor Storm, also known as Hans Theodor Woldsen Storm, was a German poet, novelist, lawyer, and writer. Born in Husum in 1817, he was a citizen of the Kingdom of Prussia and the Duchy of Schleswig. He was educated at the Katharineum, Kiel University, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His literary output includes notable works such as *The Rider on the White Horse*, *Der Schimmelreiter*, *Es waren zwei Königskinder*, *Bei kleinen Leuten*, *Sommer-Geschichten und Lieder*, and *Immensee und andere Novellen*. He was associated with the literary realism movement and wrote in German.

Storm received the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art. He died of stomach cancer in Hanerau-Hademarschen on July 4, 1888. His works have been described by sources including the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary, *Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie*, *The Nuttall Encyclopædia*, and the *Encyclopædia Britannica* 11th edition. He was an atheist and had one recorded student, Ferdinand Tönnies.
