Xenoarchaeology, a branch of xenology dealing with extraterrestrial cultures, is a hypothetical form of archaeology that exists mainly in works of science fiction. The field is concerned with the study of the material remains to reconstruct and interpret past life-ways of alien civilizations. Xenoarchaeology is not currently practiced by mainstream archaeologists due to the current lack of any material for the discipline to study.
L'archéologie interstellaire, également nommée xénoarchéologie, ou encore archéologie extraterrestre ou archéologie cosmique, est une branche encore peu développée de l'astrosociobiologie qui consiste à rechercher des traces cosmiques de civilisations extraterrestres disparues selon Richard A. Carrigan, physicien au Fermilab. Ces traces (dites « technosignatures ») pourraient être des mégastructures visibles de très loin dans l'espace. La recherche de traces matérielles de telles civilisations (sphères de Dyson ou moteurs stellaires par exemple), constitue une « alternative intéressante » au programme SETI conventionnel. Selon B. W. McGee la xénoarchéologie est au cœur de plusieurs disciplines, et doit s'appuyer sur l'exploration exoplanétaire.
