Leptoptilos
Leptoptilos is a genus of very large tropical storks, commonly known as adjutants. The name means thin (lepto) feather (ptilos). Two species are resident breeders in southern Asia, and the marabou stork is found in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Leptoptilos, in de volksmond maraboe, is een geslacht van vogels uit de familie van de ooievaars (Ciconiidae). De wetenschappelijke naam van het geslacht is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1831 door Lesson. Het is een geslacht van grote tropische ooievaars. Twee soorten zijn broedvogels in het zuiden van Azië, het derde lid van het geslacht is te vinden in Afrika beneden de Sahara. De meeste ooievaars vliegen met uitgestrekte nek, terwijl de leden van dit geslacht met ingetrokken nek vliegen.

Leptoptilos is a genus of very large tropical storks, commonly known as adjutants. The name means thin (lepto) feather (ptilos). Two species are resident breeders in southern Asia, and the marabou stork is found in Sub-Saharan Africa.
These are huge birds, typically tall with a wingspan. The three species each have a black upper body and wings, and white belly and undertail. The head and neck are bare like those of a vulture. The huge bill is long and thick. Juveniles are a duller, browner version of the adult.
