==Taxonomy== The genus Patagioenas was introduced by German naturalist Ludwig Reichenbach in 1853, with the white-crowned pigeon (Patagioenas leucocephala) as the type species. The genus name combines the Ancient Greek patageō meaning "to clatter" and oinas meaning "pigeon".
