Hyperproteinemia is the state of having overly high levels of protein in the blood. This can occur due to monoclonal gammopathies such as multiple myeloma and after intravenous immunoglobulin has been given. It can result in a falsely low appearing sodium level (hyponatremia).

Hyperproteinämie bedeutet, dass sich zu viel Proteine (Eiweiße) im Blut befinden. Der Normalwert für das Gesamteiweiß wird mit 60 und 84 g pro Liter Blutplasma angegeben. Die Erhöhung des Proteingehalts im Blut kann ein Symptom verschiedener Erkrankungen sein, z. B. chronischer Entzündungen, Leberzirrhose, Pilzerkrankungen und Tumorerkrankungen. Wenn sie als Begleiterscheinung von Flüssigkeitsmangel auftaucht, verschwinden bei ausreichender Flüssigkeitszufuhr die dann Pseudohyperprotoeinämie genannten Symptome.
