Michael Levitt

Michael Levitt is a physicist, chemist, and university teacher born in Pretoria in 1947. He holds citizenship in South Africa, the United States, Israel, and the United Kingdom. Levitt has worked at Stanford University, the Weizmann Institute of Science, and the University of Cambridge. His professional interests include computational biology, bioinformatics, protein structure prediction, and biophysics. He also engages in yachting.

Levitt received his education at Pretoria Boys High School, King's College London, and the University of Cambridge, where he studied at Peterhouse. He completed his doctoral studies under Shneior Lifson. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the European Molecular Biology Organization. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

His published works include *Conformaiton analysis of proteins*, *Herding Tigers*, *Masked Ball*, *Burnout Proof*, and *369 Days*. He is recognized in collections held by the Royal Society, the Nobel Laureates, the Nobel Chemistry, and the American Academy Arts Sciences. Levitt speaks English.
