Michael Levitt

Michael Levitt is a physicist, chemist, and university teacher born in Pretoria in 1947. He holds citizenship in South Africa, the United States, Israel, and the United Kingdom. His professional work focuses on computational biology, bioinformatics, protein structure prediction, and yachting. Levitt has been employed by Stanford University, the Weizmann Institute of Science, and the University of Cambridge.

He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and is a Fellow of the Royal Society. Levitt is a member of the Royal Society, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the European Molecular Biology Organization. He studied at King's College London, Peterhouse, the University of Cambridge, and Pretoria Boys High School, with Shneior Lifson serving as his doctoral advisor.

Levitt has authored works including *Conformaiton analysis of proteins*, *Herding Tigers*, *Masked Ball*, *Burnout Proof*, and *369 Days*. He is interested in biophysics and speaks English.
