Enterobacter är ett heterogent bakteriesläkte inom familjen Enterobacteriaceae som utgörs av gramnegativa, aeroba stavformade bakterier, som är närstående släkterna Escherichia, Salmonella och Shigella. I rutindiagnostiken vid laboratorier skiljs såväl släkterna som arterna åt med biokemiska eller molekylärmedicinska metoder.
