Mambas are highly venomous snakes found across sub-Saharan Africa that belong to a group known for their speed and potency; three of the four species are green and live in trees, while the black mamba is ground-dwelling and typically brown or grey. These snakes are widely feared throughout Africa, where they feature prominently in local legends and stories.
